The Effects of Social Media Usage on
Teenagers and Young Adults
I wrote this article to spread awareness of the effects of social media on teenagers and young adults. Allowing children to go on these platforms at young ages, even with parental controls turned on, causes more harm than good. Just like many things in this world, there are positives and negatives to almost everything. When it comes to social media, there are a lot of negatives surrounding social media that overshadow the positives.
This article was a way for me to bring awareness to others about the effects of introducing social media to their young children too early. The topics I discuss in my article regarding the effects of social media are cyberbullying, false identities, responsibilities, risk factors, harmful comparisons, and sleep deprivation.
When thinking about social media and my personal journey, I can see how it has affected me throughout my teenage and young adult years. I created my first account in 2012 and saw the cruelty that can be shared with a press of a button then and even now, 11 years later.
